Concerns have been raised about repeated screenings taken out to detect prostate cancer. A group of Australian doctors said screenings are proving more harmful than any good.

The study researchers from Bond University on the Gold Coast said repeated screenings can lead to erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence and other severe infections. Professor Chris Del Mar from Bond University said prostate cancer is almost benign in men over 60s, so repeated screenings are not required.

He said he is not going to get prostate cancer screening test, as it is not going reduce years of his life. Mar said that at the time when there are a number of concerns in regard to screenings being carried out for prostate cancer. He is quite worried about the reaction of people, who might get influenced due to public awareness campaigns that have been promoting for regular screenings of prostate cancer.

Mar has urged doctors not to ask men to get screenings done repeatedly. He is not the only one, who has raised concerns with regard to prostate cancer screenings. A number of articles have been written in which it has been clearly said that prostate cancer tests are one of the most over-diagnosed tests.
