'It's an incredibly emotional and strange moment in my life,' Samberg says of leaving after seven years of 'SNL.'

It's the end of an era for Andy Samberg, as the Lonely Island frontman has finally confirmed his exit from "Saturday Night Live."
Samberg spoke with The New York Times on Friday (June 1) and described the decision to depart "SNL" as "an incredibly emotional and strange moment in my life." He added, "Obviously it's not a huge shock, but I did officially decide not to come back."
No, it isn't a huge shock — Samberg's final Digital Short, a sequel to "Lazy Sunday," strongly suggested his impending exit — but it's nonetheless "one of the hardest decisions I've ever made," according to Samberg. In elaborating on his reasons for leaving the show after seven seasons, Samberg echoed the philosophy of fellow castmember Kristen Wiig, who also just concluded her "SNL" run.
"She kept saying it just feels like it's her time," he said. "I connect with that. Something about it just feels like it's the moment. My contract's up, and I did so much more than I ever thought I would ever even do."
Samberg's decision to walk away from the New York City-based variety show comes shortly after comments he made during his MTV Sneak Peek Week appearance for "That's My Boy" this past Wednesday. At the time, Samberg told MTV News that his mind had not yet been made up regarding his future with the show.
"You know, I've just been focusing on the movie and all this stuff," the onetime MTV Movie Awards host said. "I haven't talked to Lorne about it yet. Something will get decided over the summer. We'll see. No matter what, it's been a dream come true working there for me."
Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET.

Spirobranchus giganteus, commonly known as?Christmas tree worms, are small, tube-building?polychaete worms belonging to the family?Serpulidae.
The worm is aptly named; both its common and Latin names refer to the two chromatically hued spiral structures, the most common feature seen by divers. Actually, the multicolored spirals are merely the worm?s highly derived respiratory structures.
S. giganteus is similar to most tube-building polychaetes. It has a tubular, segmented body lined with?chaeta, small appendages that aid the worm?s mobility. Because it does not move outside its tube, this worm does not have any specialized appendages for movement or swimming.
The worms?s most distinct features are two ?crowns? shaped like Christmas-trees. These are highly modified?prostomial palps, which are specialized mouth appendages. Each spiral is composed of feather-like tentacles called?radioles, which are heavily?ciliated and allow any prey trapped in them to be transported to the worm?s mouth. While they are primarily feeding structures,?S. giganteus also uses its radioles for respiration; hence, the structures commonly are called ?gills.?
One major difference between Christmas-tree worms and the closely related?sabellida fan worms is that the latter do not have any specialized body structures to plug their tube holes when they withdraw into them.?S. giganteus, like other members of its family, possess a modified radiole, usually called the?operculum, that it uses to secure its hole when withdrawn into its tube.
As an?annelid,?S. giganteus possesses a complete digestive system and has a well-developed closed circulatory system. Like other annelids, these worms possess well-developed nervous systems with a central brain and many supporting?ganglia, including?pedal ganglia, unique to the?Polychaeta. Like other polychaetes,?S. giganteusexcrete with fully developed?nephridia. When they reproduce, they simply shed their gametes straight into the water where the eggs (and spermatozoa) become part of thezooplankton to be carried by the currents.
Christmas tree worms are widely distributed throughout the world?s tropical oceans. They have been known to occur from the Caribbean to the Indo-Pacific.[1]
Spirobranchus giganteus is commonly found embedded in entire heads of massive corals, such as stony corals like?Porites and?brain corals. Like members of its family, it can secrete a?calcareous tube around its body. This tube serves as the worm?s home and protection.?S. giganteus usually bores a hole into an existing head of living coral before secreting its tube, thereby increasing its level of protection.
As?sedentary inhabitants of coral reefs, Christmas tree worms feed primarily by?filter feeding. They use their brightly colored radioles to filter microorganisms from the water, which are then deposited straight into the worm?s digestive tract.
Few organisms are known to feed on tube-borne polychaetes and?S. giganteus is no exception.

FORTUNE ? When it comes to gauging the health of the U.S. economy, the unemployment rate is proving to be an awfully unreliable statistic. After modest declines earlier this year, the jobless rate in May edged higher to 8.2% from 8.1%, the Labor Department reported Friday.
The bad news shouldn't be that surprising. It confirms what some experts suspected all along ? that the pace of economic growth never really justified the drop we saw in unemployment earlier this year. Back in April, joblessness fell to 8.1% from 8.2% the previous month, with the economy creating a mere 115,000 jobs. Although that meant the unemployment rate reached its lowest point since January 2009, the number of jobs created was barely enough to keep up with new workers entering the labor market.
Federal Reserve officials have suggested that earlier declines in joblessness may have less to do with an improving economy than the fall in the labor force participation rate (the number of working-age Americans who are either holding a job or looking for one). Over the years, the rate has fallen for several reasons, although officials are stumped with what's really driving recent declines. Is it aging baby boomers simply retiring, frustrated workers giving up on their job hunt, or workers retiring early?
Because the unemployment rate counts only workers actively seeking jobs, a shrinking labor force has actually made joblessness decline. Recently, the Fed attributed the nearly 1 percentage point fall in the unemployment rate since August 2011 with the decline in labor force participation. Today's news that the rate rose reflected a glimmer of positive news: More unemployed people are returning to the job hunt, suggesting economic optimism.
Indeed, the unemployment rate is a bit arbitrary. But May's jobs report is nevertheless one of the more important ones in a while, as The New York Times' David Leonhardt points out. The economy added a dismal 69,000 jobs in May, less than half of what analysts had expected and the lowest number of total jobs created in a year.
In a way, the economy hasn't really changed that much since the Great Recession ended in June 2009. As Leonhardt notes, the economy has fallen into a "Spring slump" for the third year in a row. What's perhaps even more disturbing is that many of the factors that weighed down the economy three years ago continue to constrain growth today: Europe's debt crisis, housing market troubles, government jobs cuts, and a hangover from the financial crisis.
As long as these obstacles remain, it's hard to believe anything the monthly jobs numbers say ? whether it's good or bad.

Congressional candidate Chris Donovan at the fifth district Democratic convention in Waterbury, where he won the party?s endorsement. Photo by WTIC?s Matt Dwyer.
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP and WTIC-AM) _ The finance director of Connecticut House Speaker Christopher Donovan?s campaign for Congress has been charged with conspiring with others to conceal the source of $20,000 in campaign contributions.
Federal prosecutors on Thursday announced that 33-year-old Robert Braddock Jr. of Meriden was charged Wednesday in an alleged conspiracy to accept ?conduit? campaign contributions, which are donations made by one person in the name of another person.
Authorities say Braddock is finance director for a congressional candidate they won?t name, but Donovan?s campaign records show Braddock works for him.
Prosecutors allege Braddock and unnamed co-conspirators arranged two $10,000 payments, each broken up into $2500 donations, and funneled through four through other contributors to Donovan?s campaign for the 5th District seat in connection with proposed legislation this year.
Federal authorities recorded phone conversations, as they conducted an apparent sting operation, in which an undercover agent posed as a smoke shop owner who wanted to make illegal campaign contributions to House speaker Donovan?s congressional campaign.
In one conversation, an unnamed conspirator said ?Last time one of these [expletive] drug addicts? bounced a check, even though we put the [expletive] money right in their hand.?
Braddock said he would stay on top of it.
The conspirator said ?I don?t want to look like an idiot in front of my future congressman.?
He was referring to Donovan.
Frank J. Riccio II, Braddock?s lawyer, said his client is innocent and the evidence will prove it.
?I am cooperating fully with the investigation, which is on-going, as is my campaign,? Donovan said in a written statement from his campaign. ?The campaign employees allegedly involved have been terminated, and the leadership of the campaign has changed.
?Tom Swan is joining the campaign, as campaign manager, effective immediately,? Donovan wrote.
Swan is the executive director of the Connecticut Citizen Action Group. He previously worked as campaign manager for Ned Lamont, in a failed 2006 senate bid.
?The buck stops with the candidate,? said 5th District Republican Congressional Candidate Andrew Roraback.
Roraback said he wants to know if the Democratic candidate knew about the activity.
?The candidate has a responsibility to make sure that people who are working to raise funds are always doing so consistent with both the letter and the spirit of the law.?
Roraback said he does not know why the roll-your-own bill never came up for a vote in the House.
?The speaker exercises absolute control over the calendar in the House of Representatives,? Roraback said. ?If the speaker does not wish for a bill to be called, the bill is not called [for a vote].?
As the top Senate Republican on the Finance Committee which handled the roll-your-own tobacco bill, Roraback opposed the measure. He says he never asked for ? and never received ? any campaign contributions connected to the bill.
?These are very serious allegations that we expect will be thoroughly investigated,? said rival Democratic fifth district candidate Elizabeth Esty Campaign spokesperson Jeb Fain.
Donovan didn?t immediately return a message. A phone number for Braddock wasn?t immediately available.

Tom Cruise is standing in the center of the stage.? He?s shirtless, wearing black jeans with long black hair and painted black nails.? His back has a huge bird like tattoo with longs wings that stretch from shoulder to shoulder.? Along his midsection and sides, he?s got a number of smaller tattoos.? In front of him are 1,500 screaming fans.? As the camera zooms in closer to the stage, the music starts and the crowd erupts in to cheers.? All of a sudden, I realize he?s singing ?Pour Some Sugar on Me? by Def Leppard, and he?s moving around the stage like he?s been there for years.? In only a few moments, I believe Tom Cruise is a rock star, and I?m completely sold on director Adam Shankman?s Rock of Ages.
Let me back up a second.
As I type these words, it?s August 13, 2011 and I spent last night on? Los Angeles? Sunset Strip in 1987.? However, since that?s filming on the real strip and dressing it up in 1987 culture would be beyond expensive and impractical for a huge movie, Warner Bros. recreated the strip on a few streets in Miami.? And based on what I got to see and hear last night, Rock of Ages looks like it?s absolutely captured the 80s in a really fun way.? Hit the jump for so much more.
Before going any further, if you haven?t seen the recent trailer, I?d watch that first:
Video Blog
Shortly after getting back to the hotel last night, I recorded a video blog about the set visit with Amy from Myspace and Jamie from IAmRogue.? We talked about the amazing sets, the interviews, what we thought, how excited Adam Shankman was, and so much more.? All three of us were very impressed when we left the set.? Further down is more.
20 Things to Know About Rock of Ages
-? Rock of Ages takes place in 1987
- The movie isn?t making fun of the era.? They?re playing it straight.
- They filmed in Florida.
- Shankman said he wanted to make a musical that straight men would want to see.
- Shankman said the Rock of Ages budget was the same budget as Hairspray. He had to cut 40 million to get it made.
- Alec Baldwin is the reason Rock of Ages got in front of cameras.? Apparently, Baldwin is known as ?Dr. No? because he always says no to everything.? When he said yes to the project, WB told Shankman to make it work, and then Shankman rushed to get it in front of the cameras.
- The Sunset Strip set they built in Miami was amazing.? It was truly like being transported back in time.? When though it looks like it must have taken four months to bring it to life, we learned it only took half that time.
- It was a huge undertaking to get all the legal clearances for the movie. Anything that couldn?t get cleared, the production would build something similar but different enough so they could use it. An example is the Marlboro Man: His billboard used to be on the strip.? However you can?t advertise cigarettes in a movie, so they built a billboard featuring a guy that looks like him, but he?s advertising being a cowboy or something like that.
- There are 23 songs in the movie, a few of them are originals, and some are medleys of two songs mixed together.? Desmond Child, who wrote many of the big songs of the 80?s, wrote or co-wrote the original songs.
- There are three primary locations in the movie: the Sunset Strip, The Bourbon Room and the Venus Club.
- They have over 70 ?picture cars.?, i.e. era-appropriate cars being used in the movie.
- All the singers in the movie are using their own voices.? Even Tom Cruise.
- On the vintage bus they have old movie banner ads.? One side of the bus had The Lost Boys while the other had Little Shop of Horrors.
- They?re shooting using digital cameras, specifically the ARRI Alexa.? Shankman told us that while it was a learning curve for everyone, he?s been blown away by the ability of the camera to film at night with almost no light.
- Everything on the Strip has been moved closer together.? The production made a list of every bar, nightclub, and real world location they wanted to use, and then put them next to one another.? It?s like they took all the commercial buildings and restaurants off the strip, and what was left is the Rock of Ages strip.? It worked; the set was amazing, and it captured the essence of the strip.
- The movie and the stage musical are different.? Shankman decided to focus on the lead character rather than a side character, and instead of a club being sold, the movie is about censorship, which was a real issue back in the 80?s with Tipper Gore and the Parents Music Resource Center.
- Tom Cruise surprised everyone with the way he was able to learn his choreography, and also with how hard he worked.? Shankman said he?s spend hours answering Cruise?s questions, and he was like a sponge always trying to learn.? Also, Cruise never gets tired and never slows down.
- Most of the main cast did 5 weeks of intense rehearsals before shooting began.? They called it ?Rock Star College?. They did vocal, dance and guitar work.
- Shankman isn?t afraid to show visiting journalists unfinished footage in his trailer.? After doing an extremely honest interview, he led us into his trailer and showed us Tom Cruise singing ?Pour Some Sugar on Me? and another sequence with Mary J. Blige inside the Venus Club.? Both sequences looked great, and even the unfinished Cruise sequence caused normally-jaded journalists to applause.? Trust me, you won?t believe how Cruise looks and sounds in Rock of Ages.? After seeing the footage, I wanted to watch the entire movie then and there.
- When we showed up on set last night, I wasn?t sure what we?d see.? Would the production have built a theater, or converted a music venue into what they needed?? Whatever I thought beforehand, the actual set was infinitely better.
- One of my favorite parts of the set was the Tower Records store.? Until a few years ago when it went out of business, the Tower Records on the Strip was as much a part of Los Angeles as palm trees and the Coffee Bean.? Getting to see the store come back to life, with vintage album covers by Kiss, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Cinderella, and many others on the outside of the building, was a lot of fun.? Also, while the store wasn?t real on the inside, the front door was open and they had a basic setup that would look real for the camera.? It was great to see albums and other vintage posters when the doors were open between takes.
- Of course the Tower Records wasn?t the only store on the set, and the production also built The Comedy Store, Guitar Center, The Body Shop, Frederick?s of Hollywood, Trashy Lingerie, Carney?s, the Rainbow Room, Filthy McNasty?s, and so many other places.? In addition, with the movie taking place in ?87, they made sure to include another famous Angeleno: Angelyne (read about her here).? The production actually built a massive billboard of the busty blond, and she overlooks the strip like she did back in the ?80?s.? It?s the little touches like this that demonstrated how much love and care went into bringing the past to life.
- I think anyone who ever walked the Strip in the 80?s is going to love Rock of Ages and experience some serious nostalgia.
- I really can?t say enough about the footage I saw of Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx.? Trust me, it?s going to blow you away.
- In director Adam Shankman?s Rock of Ages, Cruise plays the biggest rock star on the planet and he?s about to start playing his farewell show with his band Arsenal before he does a solo project.
Final Thoughts
As you saw in the video blog, I?ve got a lot of enthusiasm for Rock of Ages.? While I knew very little about the movie before the set visit, everything I saw and learned tells me this musical is going to be a big hit for Warner Bros. next year.? It?s got an amazing cast and a soundtrack that I can?t wait to hear.? I never thought I?d have written that last sentence before visiting the set.? Wait until you see Cruise sing ?Pour Some Sugar on Me?.? You?ll be impressed.
For more on Rock of Ages, here?s my on set interviews with the cast and over twenty behind-the-scenes pictures I took while walking around set:

I hate brochures. They?re usually uninspiring and go straight to the recycle bin. Though in the early years of running a business I left countless brochures behind, I eventually learned a better way.
We all want information?make it interesting and we?ll pay attention. Make it really compelling, and we might even keep it around for awhile! So instead of brochures, I hand out over-sized postcards with handy tips on the front, and business details on the back. This latest iteration is based on a handout I give when speaking.

And here?s the back side:

Now isn?t that more interesting than a brochure?!
