Causes Of Allergies

It is hard to avoid some allergens such as house dust mites or fungal spores because they can be hard to spot and can appear in most places. It can also be hard to avoid pets, particularly if they belong to friends and family, and many food allergies are triggered because people do not realise they are eating food to which they are allergic. Below are some practical advice that should help you to avoid the most common allergens.

Food allergies

Allergens 300x196 How To Prevent Allergies

Food allergens

By law, food manufacturers must clearly label any foods that contain something that is known to cause an allergic reaction, such as celery, cereals, crustaceans, eggs, fish, milk, mustard, nuts, sesame seeds, soybeans and the preservatives sulphur dioxide and sulphites. By carefully checking the label for the list of ingredients, you should be able to avoid an allergic reaction.

Many people experience an allergic reaction while eating out at a restaurant. You can avoid this by:

  • not relying on the menu description alone as there are things like sauces that could contain things which cause allergies
  • speaking with the waiting staff and asking for their advice
  • avoiding places where there is a chance that different types of food could come into contact with each other, such as buffets or bakeries

Simple dishes are less likely to contain a vast mixture of ingredients.

Pollen allergies

Pollen allergies, more commonly known as hay fever, are caused when plants release pollen particles into the air. Different plants pollinate at different times of the year, so the months that you get hay fever will depend on what sort of pollen you are allergic to. In general, people are affected during spring (trees) and summer (grasses).

To avoid exposure to pollen you can:

  • Check weather reports for the pollen count and stay indoors when it is high.
  • Avoid drying clothes?and bedding outside when the pollen count is high.
  • Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from pollen.
  • Keep doors and windows shut during mid-morning and early evening as this is when there is the most pollen in the air
  • Shower, wash your hair and change your clothes after being outside.
  • Avoid parks, fields and other places with grass.

House dust mites

One of the biggest causes of allergies are dust mites. Dust mites are microscopic insects that breed in household dust. Below are ways that you can limit the amount of mites in your house.

  1. Choose wood or hard vinyl floor coverings instead of a carpet.
  2. Fit roller blinds that can be easily wiped clean.
  3. Clean cushions, soft toys, curtains and upholstered furniture regularly, either by washing (at high temperature) or vacuuming.
  4. Use synthetic pillows and acrylic duvets instead of woollen blankets or feather bedding.
  5. Use a vacuum cleaner fitted with a HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter, because it can remove more dust than ordinary vacuum cleaners.
  6. Wipe surfaces with a damp, clean cloth, as dry dusting can spread the allergens further.

Focus more on controlling dust mites in the areas of your home where you spend the most time, such as the bedroom and living room.

Dog and Cat Pets

It?s not the pet fur that causes an allergic reaction; it?s exposure to flakes of their dead skin, saliva and dried urine.

If you can?t permanently remove a pet from the house, you may find the following tips useful.

  • Keep pets outside as much as possible, or limit them to one room, preferably one without carpet.
  • Don?t allow pets in bedrooms.
  • Wash pets at least once a fortnight.
  • Groom dogs regularly outside.
  • Wash all bedding and soft furnishings on which a pet has laid on.

If you are visiting a friend or relative with a pet, ask them not to dust or vacuum on the day you are visiting, as this will stir up the allergens into the air. Taking an antihistamine medicine one hour before entering a pet-inhabited house can help to reduce symptoms.

Mould spores

Moulds can grow on any decaying matter, both in and outside the house. The moulds themselves aren?t allergens but the spores they release are. Spores are released when there is a sudden rise in temperature in a moist environment, such as when central heating is turned on in a damp house, or wet clothes are dried next to a fireplace.

Here are some ways that you can prevent mould spores:

  • Keep your home dry and well ventilated.
  • When showering or cooking, keep internal doors closed to prevent damp air from spreading through the house and use extractor fans.
  • Do not dry clothes indoors, store clothes in damp cupboards or pack clothes too tightly in wardrobes.
  • Deal with any damp and condensation in your home.

Severe allergies

If you have ever had a severe allergic reaction, make sure you carry two EpiPens or Anapens with you?everywhere you go. Wear a MedicAlert or Medi-Tag medallion or bracelet so that people are aware of your allergy in an emergency, and consider telling your teachers, work colleagues and friends so they can give you your adrenaline injection in an emergency while waiting for an ambulance.

Health & Fitness

We all want to be physically fit. All other areas of health actually will improve if your physical fitness is good. Getting in shape is often a journey that is difficult, especially for those that do not workout on a regular basis. With so much information out there that is supposed to give you the right information in regard to your physical health, it is hard to choose the ideal one. Exercise, physical fitness, and diet ? all of these can be done correctly if you just follow a simple trusted rules. Physical fitness tips, such as those contained in this article, will help you achieve your health and fitness goals.

Before you work on the weight training portion of your workout, touch the bench on which you will be sitting and laying while you do your lifting. Push your thumb into the cushion that is on the bench. If you can feel the frame upon which the cushion is on, do not work out on that bench. You need to worry about this because they can actually adversely affect your spine. Your arms will become very weak if you do weight lifting in this manner. If you do this too much, nerve damage can actually ensue. Make sure you always get the right bench because doing so will protect your nerves and spine.

There is also a basic order to working out. When you workout, the first thing you want to use your dumbbells because they are natural stabilizers for your body as you exercise. Also, these muscles wear out the fastest, which is another reason why you want to use these first. The barbell is probably next up, and it will help you focus on heavy weights for particular muscle groups. Finally, move on to a machine that can work many muscles simultaneously. Even though you have used some of the muscles already with dumbbell exercises, these particular muscles were not used very much, therefore it will not diminish your ability to exercise.

Don?t pop any painkillers after your workout. If possible, just deal with the pain and avoid taking acetaminophen or ibuprofen for it. Painkillers actually have been shown to have a lesser effect on pain than a placebo or fake pill. Your blood can actually get thin, and your stomach can actually be damaged, by taking these medications. Lots of water, and proper stretching, can actually help you more than the pain meds. Over the counter meds are sometimes less effective on pain than simply drinking enough water to be hydrated.

It is actually very easy to become physically fit but most people think that it is hard to accomplish.

The most difficult part of becoming physically fit is to determine how to get there the rest of it is easy! You just need to approach this with health in mind. A great way to get started is to get your physicians blessing on your workout and start as soon as you can.

You can also have measures in place to help prevent motivation issues in the first place. ZTE Grand X IN: early benchmarks for the latest Intel-powered smartphone

Handson with the Medfieldpacking ZTE Grand X IN smartphone video

It's a shame when phones feel outdated even as they hit the market, but that's sadly what happened with the original Grand X. However, as you may have heard a few hours ago, the handset's just had a healthy revamp. The spec-bumped version is called the Grand X IN -- it's due out next month and we've just had a chance to run some early benchmarks to test the performance of its vanilla Android 4 OS and new Intel engine. Among a range of improvements, including an 8-megapixel camera with burst mode (instead of the Grand X's dowdy five with no burst) and 1GB of RAM (instead of 512MB), the biggest change is that processor: out goes the old NVIDIA Tegra 2 and in comes a Medfield Z2460. Yep, that's the exact same chip we've seen put to good effect in the Orange San Diego, but how does it fare in this device? Click past the break for a head-to-head comparison with the San Diego, which is cheaper but slightly less well-built (and still running Gingerbread), and the Galaxy Nexus, which costs more but comes with a far better display.

Apple lose in the Patent Wars against Samsung; in Japan

After an eventful week and over $1 billion in damages later, both Apple and Samsung met in court again, this time in Japan. It was business as usual for both the tech giants legal teams as it was back to the Patent War that brought about one of the largest-ever fines awarded for copyright infringement.

Now Apple has lost the latest round on Friday in Japan. Tokyo District Judge Tamotsu Shoji has ruled that Samsung did not infringe on Apple?s patents relating to synchronising music and video data in devices to servers.

It?s also been one week since a Seoul court issued a split decision finding that Apple and Samsung violated each other?s patents. Both companies were prohibited from selling the infringing devices in South Korea. After the UK courts threw out Apple?s argument earlier this year, this is yet another blow for Apple, who was probably hoping for another tick in the win box, following the verdict in the US.

Apple is still waiting to hear if eight Samsung mobile phones, the majority of which are from the Galaxy SII range, will be blocked from being sold in the US.

Neither Apple nor Samsung have commented on this latest verdict. But you wouldn?t expect anything less than Apple to appeal the decision.

We will keep you updated if this story develops further.

Just as I am: Content, yet Hopeful...

Always being a hopeless/now-cynical romantic, news of engagements, weddings or "relationship statuses" changing always bring a sappy smile to my face. Hearing of unique, divinely-penned love stories always bring me goosebumps and I just shake my head in wonderment of God's perfect plan for each and every one of us. *Laughs* And at the same time I can say with utmost honesty that I am quite content in my "single" status! This *doesn't* mean I don't look around on occasion and wonder where "my guy" is...but I digress.

As my friends and I are getting older, talks of crushes or "boys" have progressed to serious discussions about what we look for {and what we don't want} in future husbands...while still other friends are hopeful about future relationships, or *in* serious relationships! One of my friends is expecting her third child--her love story is a *very* special and unique one I am privileged to have witnessed. As much as my deepest heart's desire is to get married and have as many children as God's will's...I am, frankly, blown away by the fact that I don't "feel" like me & my friends are "old enough" to be actually going through or developing serious relationships that may just turn into marriage!

Time has flown by at an alarming rate...it feels like only yesterday a friend and I were perusing Before You Meet Prince Charming, denouncing "crushes" and romance novels...and nobly making "lists" of the "musts" for our future spouses. *Disclaimer: the book referenced is a great book, helpful, to a point. Just slightly went to the extreme...crushes, I have NO room to talk, only had one till I was 12...and I love a good cheesy historical book!* At that time, I was *so* swept up in all of that, it proved to be a slight stumbling block...in other reminisces, I remember vividly how I *SO* wanted to be married at eighteen and having a passel of children by my mid-twenties. Oh the daydreams of an overly romantic old fashioned little girl...

I rejoice with those who rejoice in new found, or progressing, relationships...yet it is ALL still so foreign to me half the time I don't know what to think exactly. But I do know this--I can listen, rejoice with them, and pray for them in the new season. It's a privilege at every step of the way...while it is *also* a privilege to pray for my utterly single friends' future husbands, and pray with them in this season where God is preparing us, and "our guys" for our lives together.?

I have a journal under a light layer of dust that has a few "letters" to my future husband recorded...I think about him, and where he is, what he's doing, quite often. And on occasion I do ponder who he could be. I do have a "list" of qualities I hope my husband to?possess, but it is *not* extensive--compared to certain "lists" two of my friends and I compiled at a young age that boasted forty or more "requirements" for our guys. Don't judge.?Those days of day-dreaming childhood are gone, while the more serious business of asking the Lord to prepare and shape *me* are uppermost in my mind...but I do "dabble" on Pinterest with my dream wedding.?smile Regardless of when, where or how gorgeous the wedding is...no matter how many times I may be a bridesmaid before a bride, I am thankful and content where I am now. Yet I am so hopeful for someday... beginning a new life with a beautiful wedding day, & carving out that new life with God at the center.
